How to stop losing AI consulting leads who ghost after demos

Turn post-demo silence into signed clients with these five follow-up tactics that actually work.

You ran a great demo. They were nodding, asking questions, maybe even talking about timelines. Then — nothing. No reply to your follow-up email. No response to your check-in message. Just silence.

This is the most common revenue leak in AI consulting, and it almost never means the lead isn't interested. It usually means life got in the way, the buying process stalled internally, or they didn't feel enough urgency to act. Here's how to fix that before it costs you another deal.

1. Send a recap within 30 minutes of the demo ending

Most consultants wait a day or two to follow up. By then, your prospect has sat through two other meetings and your demo is a blur. Strike while the iron is hot — send a short, scannable recap within half an hour of hanging up.

Your recap doesn't need to be long. Include three things: the specific problem they told you they're trying to solve, the solution you showed them, and one clear next step with a direct question attached. Something like: "Based on what you shared about your onboarding bottleneck, here's the approach we'd take — does Thursday at 2pm work to walk through pricing?" That's it. Shorter wins.

2. Personalize the follow-up to something they said

Generic follow-up emails get ignored because they feel like they were written before the demo even happened. Reference a specific detail from the conversation — a number they mentioned, a frustration they vented, a goal they said mattered to their boss.

This does two things: it proves you were listening, and it reactivates the emotional context from the demo. If they said, "Our team wastes about 10 hours a week on manual reporting," your follow-up subject line could literally be: "Re: the 10 hours your team loses each week." Specificity cuts through inbox noise every time.

3. Create a micro-deadline without being pushy

Leads ghost partly because there's no cost to waiting. You can change that without being aggressive. Offer something with a natural expiry — a discounted pilot rate that's available this month, a limited onboarding slot, or a free audit you're only running for a handful of clients right now.

The framing matters. Don't say "this offer expires Friday" out of thin air — that feels fake. Instead, tie it to something real: "I've got one pilot slot open in Q3 before I'm fully booked — happy to hold it for you until end of week if you want to move forward." That's honest, low-pressure, and creates genuine urgency.

4. Follow up across more than one channel

If you only send emails, you're playing on a crowded field. Most decision-makers check WhatsApp or LinkedIn way more consistently than their inbox. A short, human WhatsApp message — not a sales script, just a genuine check-in — can resurface a conversation that email buried.

Keep it casual: "Hey [Name], just wanted to make sure my recap landed okay — anything I can clarify before you take it to the team?" That single sentence has reopened more ghosted deals than any carefully crafted email sequence. Pick the channel they actually use, not the one that's easiest for you.

5. Build a 30-day drip that adds value, not noise

If they're not ready to buy right now, that doesn't mean they'll never buy. Most AI consulting deals involve an internal approval process that takes weeks. The consultants who win are the ones who stay top of mind without being annoying.

Set up a simple 30-day follow-up sequence — three to four touchpoints spaced out over the month — that each deliver something useful: a short case study relevant to their industry, a stat about the problem they mentioned, a quick tip they can use whether they hire you or not. By the time their internal process wraps up, you're the expert they've been hearing from, not just the person they saw once on a Zoom call.

Following up consistently is one of those things every AI consultant knows they should do — and almost nobody does well, because it's tedious to personalize, easy to forget, and hard to keep track of across multiple leads at once.

That's exactly the kind of operational work you can hand off to a Sidekyk. Tell your AI sidekyk on WhatsApp who you just demoed, what they said, and what you want to follow up with — and it'll draft your recap, queue your follow-up messages, and remind you when it's time to check back in. No CRM required, no extra tools to learn. Just message sidekyk.ai and start closing the deals you've already earned.
